I'm a community minded person, often willing to help/ volunteer in multiple contexts, E.g. I have become like an Aunt to my neighbours children aged 6 and 8. I was a member of St John's (and member of NZ team) all through my teens and I have always been helpful within the community and have some experience with adults and teens with learning difficulties. My prior nursing training is a great asset in terms of understanding children's developmental milestones and common illnesses (as is the last 3.5 years of working regularly for the agency) I am an empathetic and good-humoured and readily able to establish quick rapport with both children and parents. My creative writing skills are especially useful during story-time and in firing children's imagination in general (I can keep them entertained without toys (eg within a hotel room) , if required, and failing that my bad, repetitive, nursery rhyme singing will bore them to sleep! My maturity is a definite advantage in that I have a lot of highly practical life experience. This makes me very calm and capable especially if things DON'T go according to plan. In terms of caring for children, while they may now be surrounded 21st century technology, I believe their basic needs for love and attention - within appropriate circumstantial boundaries - is exactly the same. This makes them a delight to care for whatever their age or stage.
